The Fareham Junior Chess Club (FJCC) meets on a Saturday morning between 10 – 12 from September to July, with breaks for school holidays.
The fee per season, September to July is £15.00 irrespective of the start date.
The Junior Club is organised and run by Joe Coburn. Joe has been teaching chess to juniors for almost 10-years at the FJCC. Joe holds a DBS certificate.
Internal competitions are always popular. There are various types of competitions and tournaments held during the season, including: Knockout, Swiss and all-play-all. The use of chess clocks is encouraged in tournament play, with various time settings.
On occasion, and as time allows, Joe has the assistance of other senior members of the Chess Club.
For those youngsters interested in joining the English Chess Federation (ECF) membership details can be found at https://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-membership-rates-and-joining-details/ The cost of ECF membership is not covered by the FJCC.
Chess is not only a competitive game. Learning to play chess is also a great way to improve concentration, memory, and self-control. Whether your child wants to learn to play chess, to improve their play and take part in tournaments, or simply enjoy playing chess in a friendly group, they are welcome to join the FJCC.
